Don’t deny admission to dengue patients: Delhi Govt to hospitals

New Delhi, 1/9 : With the city witnessing a spurt in dengue cases, Delhi Government has issued an advisory to all hospitals asking them not to deny admission to patients affected by the vector-borne disease and postpone elective procedures so that such patients could be given proper care.

“With the number of dengue cases rising, the Directorat of Health Service issued an advisory to all government and private hospitals directing them not to deny admission to such patients if needed be,” Dr Charan Singh, in-charge of the vector-borne control programme in Delhi Government, said. As per the advisory, hospitals have been asked to try and postpone elective procedures (surgery that is scheduled in advance and does not involve a medical emergency) so that these large number of dengue patients can be given proper medical care.

“We have asked them to try and postpone elective procedures to allow proper medical care to maximum number of dengue patients. Dedicated dengue wards have been opened in government hospitals and we are consistently monitoring the situation,” Singh said, adding that due to the sudden rush many hospitals have been forced to devote a large number of beds to dengue patients.

Besides, the Health Department has also ordered all government blood banks to stock enough platelets and has also asked private blood banks to ensure their availability at nominal rates. As many as 831 cases of dengue have been reported this year till August 29 in the national capital, the highest number for the period in the last five years, according to a municipal report released yesterday. However, officials from the city’s municipal corporations and Health Department of Delhi government could not furnish information on the latest number of dengue cases.

The last figure released by the municipal corporation was till Aug 29. The August month has reported its highest number, with cases rising to an alarming 778. At least 780 cases were reported till August 28, and among the fresh 250 cases last week, included a Palestinian diplomat and his two sons.

BJP taunt: Pyari, Navin on one stage : Nabakalebara at the helm

Bhubaneswar, 8/7 : Rumors rife at the various possibilities. The most prized question is whether BJP is now bringing in the former BJD chief strategist to the helm of its affair. Will the party go for its Nabakalebar after its debacle in taking up the Brahma Parivartan issue, which was hijacked by Congress?

Four Union Ministers will visit Odisha on July 9 to unveil various programmes ahead of the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra, which will be observed on July 18. Union Transport & Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari will dedicate the four-laning of Bhubaneswar-Puri NH 203 popularly known as Sri Jagannath Expressway near Pipili to the nation. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will launch the Wi-Fi services in Puri on the same day. Union Ministers from Odisha, Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan will accompany them during the visit.

However, the presences of other dignitaries are the most interesting chapter of the show. Apart from Chief Minister Mr Navin Patnaik, Puri MP Mr Pinaki Mishra and Bhubaneswar MP Mr Prasanna Patsani will be seen in the dais. However, the biggest surprise of the event will be presence of Pyari Mohan Mohapatra and Bishnab Charan Parida. According to sources involved with the project both these BJD MPs will be given seats close to Navin so that the CM feels humiliated.

People in Odisha know that Navin don’t see eye to eye these two MPs. BJP leaders have been assessing the pros and cons of adding Pyarimohan Mohapatra to the party. The Rajya Sabha member had a bitter parting with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2012 and has been recently meeting BJP leaders to formalise an alliance. Mr Mohapatra, the face of Naveen’s political and administrative machineries for long, has a lot of critics among the BJP cadre, particularly now, after his party failed in its debut to open its account in the recent elections. According to a senior BJP leader familiar with BJP activities, Mr Mohapatra has already met lot of senior BJP leaders.

The Chief Minister on Sunday inaugurated 14 projects within two hours even though major works including roads, drainage and sewerage systems in the town remained incomplete. Both Congress and BJP leaders criticised the inauguration spree undertaken by the Chief Minister.  Activists of the Sachetan Nagarika Manch and Jagannath Sena led by Priyadarshan Pattnaik opposed the Chief Minister’s visit by sprinkling Ganga Jal (holy water of the Ganges) and lime water after inauguration of the projects.
